Off to PENLEE POINT now in SE Cornwall, note the steam powered foghorn and the large concrete steps that formed part of the landing stage for the guns at PENLEE BATTERY.
Lastly one of my favorite areas, BRIDGEND between NEWTON FERRERS and NOSS MAYO near PLYMOUTH, DEVON. Very high res photo of BOVISAND and FORT BOVISAND and the STADDON HEIGHT DEFENCES from c1930/40s.
Next is another busy and hectic scene on the pebble beach of MOUNT BATTEN to the east of PLYMOUTH with STAMFORD FORT looking down from above.
Now we are going to but a ticket on the public foot ferry from TURNCHAPEL, across the CATTEWATER to PHOENIX WHARF, PLYMOUTH, even today you can do this trip, but with a slightly different pick up and put down location.
HM Submarines Orpheus and Narwhal are seen here in 1975. Am amazing image here c1970s of Plymstock Cement Works - this scene is now 100% gone!
I am very sad to record the passing of Plymouth wreck diver and historian, Peter Mitchell at the young age of 68.
AVAILABLE 1000s HI-RES IMAGES, ROMANS, EGYPTIANS, LUXOR, THE NILE, LAKE NASSER, TEMPLES, VILLAGES, PEOPLE, CAIRO, KING TUT, VALLEY OF KINGS, ABU SIMBEL, PYRAMIDS, especially useful as I have been told that all photography in the Cairo Museum is now banned, I have enough shots in there to fill a CD on it's own, just ask....
Both now largely overgrown, but intact especially below ground, you can easily see the strategic location of these fortification works. Then a very detailed and busy image of MOUNT WISE, DEVONPORT, PLYMOUTH showing that once it was public swimming pool area , which it still is, but not looking like this!Recently a hoard of WORLD WAR 2 no 76 SIP grenades were found in busy Plymouth, that cased traffic chaos......here.I am putting most of my new stuff, and there is LOADS!!!Peter was a great guy, a helper, a do-er, he really loved and lived heritage. Without the support and influence of Peter, it is very probable that Cyberheritage would never have been born.Peter will live on through his DVDs, his Wreckers Guide books and his web site, A stunning shot looking towards Plymouth Sound from Penlee Villas - now very much an urban area, this looks like it was a semi rural paradise - well if you were rich anyway. Andy Amor has been flying over the D Day beaches in Northern France & The Needles.
